Warner Bros. Announces Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes - Most Likely Coming to OnLive

Warner Bros. Interactive has announced Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes for release on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii, DS, 3DS and PS Vita in the summer of 2012. It's safe to assume that Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes will release on OnLive day-and-date with the other versions since Warner Bros. is a big investor in OnLive, has released other LEGO games like LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 and other blockbuster titles like Batman: Arkham City day-and-date on OnLive, and of course the first LEGO Batman game, the best-selling LEGO game of all time which sold more than 11 million copies to date, is a part of the OnLive game catalog. Not only that, to coincide with the launch of the OnLive App for Android, LEGO Batman got touch controls for play on touch capable devices and OnLive even gave the game away for free for those who installed the OnLive Android App on their mobiles.

As always development duties will be handled by Traveller's Tales, which has given Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Wars the LEGO treatment and produced and created a LEGO Rock Band title.

As you may have gleaned from the title of the game, although Batman takes center stage other DC Universe heroes will be making appearances in the sequel.

Warner has said that SupermanWonder Woman and Green Lantern will be making appearances. BTW, it's an interesting fact that OnLive subsidiary Mova was involved in the facial capture work for the Warner Bros. Green Lantern movie with their Mova CONTOUR Reality Capture tech.

It's probably safe to assume there will be cameos from villains beyond the Dark Knight's rogues gallery too.

In the game Batman and Robin and pals from the DC Universe try to save Gotham City from Lex Luthor and the Joker. There's a new, original story, too.

You can explore Gotham City using the Batmobile and Batwing vehicles. Expect new gadgets and suits, such as Batman's Power Suit and Robin's Hazard Cannon. New abilities include flight, super-breath and heat vision.

Here's the official press release:

In LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, the Dynamic Duo of Batman and Robin join other famous super heroes from the DC Universe including Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern to save Gotham City from destruction at the hands of the notorious villains Lex Luthor and the Joker. Batman fans of all ages will enjoy a new and original story filled with classic LEGO videogame action and humour as players fight to put the villains back behind bars.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes builds upon the action and cooperative gameplay experience established in our best-selling LEGO video game to date, LEGO Batman: The Videogame,” said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games. “We’re offering fans a rich and expansive Gotham City environment filled with cool characters, great customization options and plenty of surprises that families, young gamers and DC Universe fans can enjoy together.”

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes further extends and combines both the Batman and LEGO videogame experiences to create very fun gameplay,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Development and Production, Warner Bros.
