Ubisoft making an OnLive Cloud Based MMO - Assassin's Creed: OnLive?

Ubisoft Quebec, which contributed to the development of both Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed: Revelations, is making a AAA MMO according to new job listings. Several positions include work on a AAA MMO and work with cloud computing, and since Ubisoft is a big partner of OnLive with many games including multiple Assassin's Creed titles released for the cloud gaming platform, the thought is near that Ubisoft and OnLive might have joined forces to work on an OnLive exclusive Assassin's Creed MMO or an MMO with a new IP.

There are positions for an Engine & Tools Programmer for a AAA MMO. Ubisoft writes, "To suit this position you have a passion for creating tools. You will work closely with designers and artists to design, create and maintain tools in our proprietary game engine. Our vision is to build systems and tools that empower creativity and efficiency for artists, designers and programmers. The ideal candidate possesses a strong interest in technology and is capable of working with designers, programmers and artists." There are also positions for a Server Programmer for a AAA MMO. Ubisoft writes, "The server programmers will make and maintain Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game server systems. "

Then there are open positions like for a 3D Programmer for Cloud Computing. Ubisoft writes that they want to broaden their market and get off the beaten track! More info about this position:

The position holder will adapt and optimize a modern rendering system used for AAA gaming so as to make it compatible in Cloud architecture. Distributed programming, Virtualization and Cloud new technologies will be part of your daily activities.

With your creative mind and desire to meet new challenges in the entertainment industry, you’ll be part of a team responsible for designing, developing, validating and supporting innovative technological solutions aimed at developing mega games and optimizing the production of AAA multisite games.

Be part of Ubisoft’s Cloud Computing R & D Team in charge of technological developments for tomorrow’s Gaming.

Some of the more interesting job requirements are:
- Knowledge of OpenGL and DirectX
- Knowledge of OpenCL et/ou CUDA
- Basic knowledge of video streaming and compression (asset)
- Knowledge of Cloud Technologies (Amazon, OpenStack, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) (asset)

There are also open positions for an Engine programmer for Cloud Computing:

- Knowledge of Cloud Technologies (Amazon, OpenStack, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) (asset)
- Experience with virtualization (Amazon EC2, VDT, XEN, KVM) (asset)

And last but not least there are open positions for a Web/DB/Tools Programmer for Cloud Computing:

The Web / DB / Tools programmer will be responsible for developing tools and processes using multiple Cloud solutions available. You will also work on optimizing the accessibility of technology for Cloud users at IaaS, PaaS and SaaS levels.

- Knowledge of Cloud Technologies (Amazon, OpenStack, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)

Will the project be built as a cloud-gaming-compatible MMO from the ground-up?

Ubisoft is one of a few major publishers without a large-scale MMO on the go - Activision Blizzard has World of Warcraft, while EA just launched Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Of course it might well be that Ubisoft is working on their own cloud gaming service with the help of cloud gaming providers like Gaikai or Otoy. If Ubisoft is feeling really brave, they might go their own way with cloud gaming.

Here are a few ideas what this cloud based MMO from Ubisoft might be called:

- Assassin's Creed: Online... Assassin's Creed: OnLive
- World of Assassin's (Creed)... WOA
- The Animus
- World of Animus... WOA
- Animus Online... Animus OnLive
- Live On Animus
- Live (in) the Animus

Feel free to add your own ideas.
