OnLive Has Upgraded Their Servers to Version Two

One of the big selling points for OnLive was the fact that they will be able to upgrade their server hardware to run games in higher quality. It looks like OnLive is following through with their promise. This has also been confirmed by many OnLive gamers.

OnLive's Vice president of games and media John Spinale said that the cloud gaming service is prepared for the next generation of consoles, and can be easily considered one in its "own right".

"We're going to find ourselves at a point where every previous generation was really clearly marked, like Xbox and Xbox 360," he said.

"At this point, I think we can consider ourselves a next gen console in our own right. We're higher performance than any of the existing stuff - is that next gen?

"Sure, fair enough, but, at some point we keep upgrading in the background and so instead of having this stuck function of consoles and generations, it's going to be a linear ramp of upgraded horsepower."

Spinale added that due to OnLive's constant upgrades, games already running on the service will also look better over time.

"We're finding that out even as we speak," he explained. "We just released version two of our servers and it's allowed us to run Homefront, for instance, on higher end platforms which means you can turn - these games are very scalable in terms of fidelity in graphics - all the options on... [for] self-shadowing, sub-pixel rendering and all that kind of crazy stuff."
