Borderlands 2 confirmed

2K Games has confirmed that Borderlands 2 will be released on PS3, Xbox 360, PC and possibly OnLive... in the next 21 months.

The title will once again be developed by Gearbox Software. According to 2K, the game will be released in the twelve months that follow April 1, 2012 - the beginning of parent Take-Two's financial year.

Gearbox Software is a big supporter of OnLive and has already released Borderlands and Duke Nukem Forever on OnLive. This is a pretty strong hint that the game will come to OnLive. Gearbox and Sega might also bring Aliens: Colonial Marines along to OnLive.

A 2K release said: "Don’t expect just a couple bazillion more guns this time around. Combining invention and evolution, Borderlands 2 features all-new characters, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, which come together in an ambitiously crafted story. Players will reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.

Environments will be more diverse and enemies will be smarter, says 2K, plus Gearbox is planning an improved mission system "capable of delivering a better story".

The original cell-shaded art style has been carried over as is.

The September issue of Game Informer contains 12 pages of exclusive details and screenshots from Borderlands 2, and outlines the numerous improvements the developer has in store for your return trip to Pandora.

Fans and media will get their first look at the game at Gamescom 2011 in Germany from August 17 - August 21, and at PAX Prime (Booth #3417) from August 26 - August 28.
